Dish for mealworms

So I've searched the forum for this answer but found nothing, so I'm going to ask and hopefully get an answer. I recently purchased some mealies for Teak. I bought another food dish to put them in but they crawl right out! I thought they weren't very good crawlers/climbers? Is there something else that you all recommend putting the mealies in so they don't crawl out? I would like to leave them in there for Teak but don't want them crawling all over his tank and crawling into his moist hide as they did that yesterday. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It has to be smooth sided, nothing they can grab onto and climb out. I use those kidney shaped dishes that are in the reptile section at the petstore. I think they are by Zilla?? But you can use a glazed clay plant saucer, a glass ashtry, etc. Anything smooth.

Ahhh ok, so as long as its smooth like glass, they shouldn't climb out? I'll have to go and look to see if they have any at the pet store. If not, I might just buy an ash tray since its heavier and Teak wouldn't tip it over! Thanks!

The dishes I have aren't that pricey, the link was for a 6 pack of them >.< sorry. I also have one of the dishes in the other link, I use it for my bearded dragons greens

I actually just found a small glass votive candle holder that I am using to hold the mealies. They can't get out and its heavy enough that Teak wouldn't knock it over! Now the question, can I just put them in the cage and leave them in there? Will he eat when he wants or should I wait until I feed him at night? I've read some people leave the mealies in there all day so I'm not sure what I should or shouldn't do...thanks :)

It's really all up to you. I personally leave my mealies in a dish constantly and I feed crickets at meal time. That's just my personal way of keeping variety in Echos diet.

He will eat all of his crickets I give him and he will eat 1-3 mealies over night most nights.. Sometimes none at all, and sometimes a lot but I just like to keep the variety there for him.

Ok great, thanks! I took the mealies out yesterday to gut load them and put them in his tank so we will see at the end of the day if he has eaten any. I feed him a superworm every other day or two and crickets the rest of the time but I wanted to try mealies since he has never had them before.

I just leave a dish of 10 or so overnight and then put them back to gut load in the morning.

Ok I'll try that if he doesn't eat them by tomorrow morning...he usually is out and about to eat at around 9 or 10pm so we will see if he notices them since its something new in his tank :)

I put mine in a small glazed ceramic bowl made for hamsters and it is to high for them to get out and it works great

I put about a dozen to a dozen and a half mealworms in his dish each evening around 7 pm. He usually finishes them all but if he doesn't I put them back into the mealworm bin in the morning also. Then I do the same again in the evening.

Curiosity got my $5 when i came across this. It serves it's purpose (keeps gecko intrigued) and at least it's something different. It's thicker plastic and it stays stuck to the side of the tank very well. I've only been using it for two days so we'll see how long my attention span lasts on this one.
