Disinfecting tanks

I wasn't really sure where to put his thread, but housing seemed best. I'm jut curious what does everyone use to disinfect empty tanks? My cousing gave me an old 40gal, and usually I take tanks to the shower and use a heavy scrubbin of soap and water. Obviously, this won't fit... I was thinking a spray bottle of 1/10th bleach 9/10ths water, then spray it all and let it sit for a good half hour and give it a rinse. Opinions or other methods?

Bleach, ammonia or vinegar solution would be the best bet. I have this spray stuff called Wipe Out 2 and I like that. Smells like ammonia, so you could save yourself a few bucks and just buy some pure ammonia at the store lol

So you think using one part ammonia nine parts bleach in a spray bottle, then misting the tank down, letting it sit a while, and rinsing it out a few times is adequate?

DO NOT MIX AMMONIA AND BLEACH. It will give off toxic fumes and kill you and your pets if there is not enough ventilation. Read the bottles, it will reinforce this with dire warnings...lol

I soak empty tubs and bowls overnight in a solution of Novalsan (Chlorhexadine). In the past I've also used a bleach OR ammonia solution (about 1:9 checmical to water ratio) in rotation (bleach one cleaning, ammonia the next) just to make sure I'm getting all the beasties :)

Don't mix chemicals, you crazy! Lol Go with ammonia and water. It's a nasty heavy smell, though, so if you don't like stuff like that, just go with a bleach solution.

I use chlorhexidine for disinfecting. Bleach is nasty stuff IMO. Vinegar works too. I would not want to use ammonia personally.

I wasn't planning on mixing any chemicals haha, I'm a bit of a pyro not a mad scientist haha. I think I'll just stick to the bleach for now, seems to work fine as is. Then just follow it up with a soap and water rinse outside.
