Do hatchlings rest after piercing egg?

Just wondering if they take a rest after they pierce the outer shell of the egg, before they crawl out? I had one the other day where the little gecko head was sticking out of the egg a bit, but it wasn't moving. I was worried, so I went ahead and helped it out of the egg. I've never had one not make it out of the egg, but this was the first time I checked the incubator and saw that, so I figured better safe than sorry.

Jason, I help every one I find halfway out if they don't exit in a few minutes too. I would imagine the ordeal of waking up inside an egg, piercing it and taking their first breathe isn't always an easy task. Sounds a bit tiring to me:main_yes:

Thanks for the replies, that's good to know. Since I've messed up the humidity on a few egg containers this year, I was worried that the gecko was dead when I first saw it. I was so relieved when I saw the little one breathing. Then when I looked inside the egg, the gecko was wrapped so tight I thought it was deformed. Luckily it was a perfectly healthy hatchling from my Cremesicle x SHTCT, the first from that pairing. Actually it's only the second gecko I've hatched since last year. My brain is still rusty, but it's starting to come around. Time to breed a few more I guess.

It's VERY hard work for these little newborns to get out of the egg! It can take 30-45 minutes for them to get completely out. Yes, they do rest to regain their strength while emerging into the world.

not to steal your thread, but
is it good to help them out or bad, or does it not really matter?

That's okay, you're on topic. I think I'm more of a thread thief than you are anyway! LOL :D

I don't think it's a bad thing, as long as you're very careful not to hurt the hatchling, and the egg yolk or umbilicus has been absorbed by the gecko. If it's still attached I suppose there could be complications.

The gecko I helped out was all sticky, so I misted it a bit with a spray bottle before placing it in it's hatchling tub.
