Hey everybody, I'm thinking of getting a leopard gecko and I'm confused about the supplements. Tell me if this is good:
Calcium without d3 in a cage dish 24/7
Calcium with d3 on feeders whenever it eats
And repti-safe water dechlorinator

Is this good? Thanks for your time,

Nick

calcium in tank sounds good without phosphorous., but what product are you going to use for dusting at every feeding, repashy calcium plus?.make sure the d3 content isnt high in whatever you are using ....add a multivitamin once a week depending on what feeder insect your going to use aswell. if your planning on feeding your leo different things like roaches(depending where your from),silkworms(high calcium),phoenix worms(high calcium)..then you wont need to supplement a multivitamin in as much in appose to mealworms....because hes already getting a good amount...there is such a thing as over supplementing..people make that mistake including me..its good your asking and not just going on your own...this is a great place to ask questions alot of people will help...havent heard anyone use a dechlorinator for there leo's cage..usually filtered water is okay..but if its safe for reptiles i dont see why you cant use it

Vitamin + mineral supplements should be used sparingly. Achieving a healthy balance with supplements is difficult. Never mix products; use a balanced vitamin-mineral powder with many vitamins + calcium and phosphorous provided, and put a tiny pinch on the food once weekly, no more. Reptocal and Reptivite are 2 brands which offer balanced formulations. Overdosing is a common problem with using these supplements; it is safer to dose conservatively.

Read that in conjuction with what I msged you.

A reputable source on this subject -

VIT D3 in the Repashy Brand - 40,000 IU

" My biggest concern with the product is that it states to be used with each feeding.
The recommended safe limit is Vit D3 is 5,000 IU/kg of food (dry weight)

I have been using zoo med repti calcium lately and this is what it states.
VitD3 10,390 iu.........22,907iu

12 dusted crickets per week for every 2.5 ounces (71 grams) of body weight

That is a hell of a difference.

So that has twice the amount and it says dust daily? " not to mention crickets coat better then the more common mealworms that is used on this thread..from what ive observed.

others will comment for sure. Just wanted to share this with you and others who will see and want to comment

Its cheaper to use filtered water. I used to buy gallon jugs at the grocery for 50c of spring wanter, but not gonna lie, I've been using tap water since I moved to IL and that tap water is pretty clean here.
