Does anyone own a friendly Tokay?

A couple of my friends have tokays that regularly accept handling and even display. Two of my friends (Leanne and Greg Christenson) had a large male tokay (I think 10+ years old) on display at the NARBC Tinley Park show a few years back. (When I say on display, I mean out in the open; in NO cage). Behaved pretty darn well. Another friend of mine has some "nice ones" out of his group of terrors. Look up Jeremy Gentile/Tokays Unlimited.

I had a tokay in the past, but rather keep some of the smaller representatives of the genus. Beautiful gecko, but most often a hands-off species...

honestly i have not a clue... we got him from people who no longer wanted him, nor did they take care of him... he was super skinney and lacked the ability to stick on to the glass when we got him... he was our first gecko... didnt have a clue about him when we stuck our hands in there and picked him up... got an ID on him and was asked how we tamed the devil lol... needless to say he is one of the more respected lizards in our house now, but hes never been anything but mad chill... as you can see my 2 year old daughter loves him.... calls him silly gecko lol.... and if i let her she would hold him all day long *dont worry she is awesome with pets!* lol.... sorry im of no help... i would assume he is CB.... but i may be wrong... the people i got it off from just said they took him in cuz the people before them didnt want him, and they said they took him out every now and then as well... but i hear CB are alot more likely to be tame than WC.... *shrug* we love ours though... but i can tell you when ever this tokay passes we wont get another one in fear of it not being good.... lol

That's the key, just handle them from hatchling age.

I think that is the key to most geckos in general. I had a similar question about leachies & chahouas.

Although, I think every animal has it's own temperment & it can only be swayed to a certain degree based on it's environment. I also believe genetics play a big role in the temperment it is born with. (ie. calm male x calm female = calm offspring with right environment) JMO.
