As some of you know I just got a 40 gallon breeder I would love to put a turtle in it now! Any advice on filters or heaters?

And if turtles are a lot of work? Like draining the tank every week and such? I'm used to Tortoises and geckos where I only have to spot clean.

Turtles can be very messy! You'll want to make sure you have a ton of room for them to grow but also you'll want a superb filtration system. Water changes will become your friend :)
Turtles are great but given the water aspect of things, they become quite a handful. Witness all the Red Eared Sliders that are given away to shelters every year

It all depends on what kind of turtle you want.a 40 gal would be fine for an adult spotted turtle, or a couple muds or musks.a mixed species tank is always fun.but for a 40 gallon tank, you're going to want to stick to turtles that stay under 6" or so full grown.and the right canister filter makes ALL the difference.and an old wet/dry shopvac makes water changes worlds easier, too.work smarter, not harder.
