Great pics in terms of getting the word across on not using sand. Too bad for the little fella though. Unfortunately, every so often, you will still read up on people asking if they should use sand as a substrate every couple of monts or so. It's great that none of use use sand but you never know about the rest of them. Hopefully they'll learn.

Calci sand is the worst kind. If you want something that would look good on display tile or repti carpet are the way to go.

Someone may come over here and kick me in my posterior region but there is a lot more to SAND than meets the eye.

Geckos will crave calcium and if not found, guess where they go? Hmmm the sand.....

I kept leos on sand for a long long time BUT I provided an oversized calcium dish, many pinks along with very varied food items. It was also well drained, well sifted and once in the cage almost like concrete once dried, much like own natural region.

With pets that is easier to do, once I went to having more leos, the cali dish got smaller and the variety of diet was less so, no more sand.

Husbandry is always an issue no matter what you use but yes sand is not good and can even be deadly if they do not get all the extras they need.

They live on and in very hard compacted and I mean very hard sand in the wild, but they have a much more varied diet. They, I am sure have things that we still do not know about even now but husbandry is always the key.

And sand is not safe considering we cannot duplicate their natural sand like feeding and living.

well enough about that......
