I'm noticing a few of my Juvenile's back legs seem to be double jointed. I was wondering if anyone else has something similar. I'll post pictures next time I see it.
It may be MBD but we have had some hatchlings that are double jointed. They grew up just fine with no MBD at all. One day we were watching the hatchling walk and then it looked like it broke its leg then just popped it back into place. So yes it is possible to be double jointed but just to be on the safe side still look for signs of MBD.
that is interesting, Ive never seen or heard of a leo being double jointed, anyone have pics of these? Even after 2 hours of searching I cannot find anything about a leo being double jointed except in the toes which is normal.
Thanks for the input guys. I'll do my best to get a solid picture. It is showing on 1 of my hatchlings does it all the time. As soon as I recognized it I doubled up the calcium. It came to my attention recently again when I purchased two geckos at the Reptile Show, they both do the same thing.
Wendy, thanks for the thread link but they looking nothing like that. It's almost like how a Flamingo's leg bends in the opposite direction. On the Geckos hind legs how they usually are angled towards the tail, they can angle them towards their head.
That sounds like MBD although I hope its not, the link I posted has a very minor case caught very quickly and treated quickly the best it could be.
Not trying to scare you but if the limbs are facing the wrong direction at the joint it sounds like a severe case of MBD, early signs of MBD often include soft limbs, weakness etc. Distorted limbs are pretty severe signs and yours sounds like it has distorted limbs. (pointing in the wrong direction)
I went through my pics of my new purchases and one of them was showing it. The weird thing is all the ones that show it do it when they are just sitting there. Then they seem to pop it right back when they need to walk and walk with no problem :main_huh:
I went ahead and circled the part in red.
I'll try and get some more pictures that show it better.
well it looks like MBD but it my not be, Ive honestly not been able to find any record of double joints in the limbs (legs and arms) of leopard geckos out of 11 books and the entire web.
Like I mentioned 1 of the common signs of MBD is distorted limbs and that limb is distored.
