What is the best way to handle geckos who arent really tame? Should I let them just crawl on my hands? Should I let them crawl up my arms, sit in my lap? Im very nervous about this particular part since I dont want to stress them, hurt them or just make them dislike being held altogether. Both my geckos, whom Ive only had for around 2 weeks, have a tendancy to try for the running leap, which makes me even more nervous and then my hands shake.Im always afraid that if they try to run or jump and I grab them that I may hurt them or just upset them really badly.Any suggestions?

I think people mistake "tame" as being able to be learned by the gecko. it is all about how the geckos personality is, some can be viscious, some lazy and others friendly but jumpy. This is what i do, mine is very friendly but like yours like to run and jump around. I usually hold him over the tank so if he jumps he can jump back into his tank with no harm done, and once you get a little more easy with him or more experienced in how to hold your particular gecko you can do how you please.

please dont mistake me as anyone of profession but i have a little experience. another key thing is not to be nervous when picking them up. they can sense fear/hesitation and then they themselves feel insecure. But it does seem liek yours just doesnt wanna stay still, Keep trying and be gentle

P.S NEVER GRIP THE TAIL TO PICK THEM UP, it is very sensitive.

everyone feel free to correct or add to me.

Thats one thing that scares me,that they will go to jump and when I go to grab them I might grab the tail.So Ive been holding them over a deep box top,low to the bottom so if they jump, they go into the top,no harm done.Im getten better, less nervous.I assume that from living in the pet stores they just arent used to being held so Im giving it a shot to see if they will grow to like it.

I let mine run on me on the sofa or on the bed so they can get off my lap without going too far. I have one that is a total puddle, she just sits my shoulder and takes it all in. Another that likes to explore the sofa and constantly moves.
