Well I got myself a copy plus Dreamweaver 8 For Dummies, Sam's Teach Yourself Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 In 24 Hours and Total Training For Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 DVDs. Will these books/DVDs give me what I need to build a website with it? I'd really like to do my own site that is why I'm asking. Also any tips would be appreciated. :D

My only advice is take some basic design & web courses. You'll learn invaluable information taking those courses that you'll never learn in a book. :)

I'll do that. I made some sites with geocities a few years back and it was pretty weak. I absolutely hated the ads you are stuck with too.

Ugh more school! I just finished 3 years of Business school through Devry Online! I think I'm going to stick to the books for now. :main_cool3:

While Dreamweaver is likely the best program available, there are, without question, more that is involved than the technical aspects. You also have to pick up graphic design, site layout, search engine optimization, market research, etc.

Depending on what kind of site you're doing, you may want to pick up some programming concepts courses/books/websites if you plan on doing any php/asp development.

I can highly recommend the people and articles over at sitepoint (http://www.sitepoint.com -check the 'topics' column on the left for the articles). There's some good stuff over there, and the articles usually involve more of the design topics than the technical.

Good luck and let me know if you need any help.

It certainly involves a lot of reading and playing around - as well as some frustrating times - but I did it! It was even pretty fun. Now if only the *&$%# "Put" button worked....

We'll be looking forward to your site! :)

Thanks for the suggestion, Brian. I think my copy of dreamweaver is just defective. I have another website for my students that uses a different server and it won't work there either. I believe everything is correct. I will check again.

If "I" can build my own website, ANYONE can! I used MS Frontpage and a book. I just wish I knew more about how to make my site look like it's supposed to on Firefox.

You used MS Frontpage... it's impossible to get that to look right in anything but IE :p
