Dried Tail

My 11 year old son has had his Leopard Gecko for over 2 years now with little to no issues. Today when he pulled "Shara" out of her cage he freaked out because the end of his tail is shriveled, dry, and hard. Right above this area it looks irritated with a little clear liquid from one small spot where the dried part is attached. Otherwise she is still acting and eating normally. I've read through the posts I can find on Tail issues and it appears she will take care of this on her own. I'll have my son put her in some clean warm water and put some Neosporin on it after she dries. Are there any other suggestions?

Thanks.

It could be that the gecko tried to drop part of its tail for some reason. There have been some cases of cage decorations or hides triggering that in some unfortunate cases. Perhaps instead of falling off the tip of the tail just got separated internally and failed to drop? A picture might help.

Also I've heard that the neosporin you use can't have some sort of pain relief ingredient :s

It could also be the beginnings of tail rot. I agree, a picture would help.

Watch the tail carefully for signs of necrosis. If the part starts going black, or the rest of the tail starts going dark, a vet visit will be required immediately to treat the gecko and prevent sepsis.

It could be a few different things but I would say a quick trip to the vet for a check up would be your best bet. I would not wait until it go worse to have it checked. JMO. In the mean time provide a moist hide if you do not have one already and keep the enclosure super clean.
Good luck
