Is it normal for a gecko to eat their own tale that they dropped????My sparky dropped about an inch or so of his tail and it is not in the cage so I assume he ate it. I hope he does not get sick or it gets stuck inside him.... Did that ever happen to anyone?
Thanks.

Yes they can do this. I dunno why but I have heard of them doing this, possibly to regain the nutrients, or maybe because it is moving afterwards, who knows. I don't think he will get sick from it though. Sorry to hear about the dropped tail btw!

I worry she will mess with it while we are away during the day. A small part of her tank had sand in it, I covered that up so none gets in the wound, and made sure she is warm enough and I am just going to leave her alone for a few days so she isnt spooked anymore. I assume she wont be hungry for a while since she at a really large cricket Saturday afternoon and now the tail early SUnday morning.... She has not really moved from the same spot since it happened, I hope she is getting water....

I would replace the sand with paper towel just to make sure her tail stays clean. :)

I put another ceramic tile in and I covered the remaining part with a paper towel. I had a problem in the past where I covered all the sand completely and she would not go to the bathrrom.. sure enough she hasnt gone in a while so last night I tore a small small section of paper towel out so there was a small area and i woke up this morning and she went right on the sand area, so I have to leave that part for her. its like she is a cat and needs a liter box LOL
