Dubia Container Idea

Can anyone tell me what a baby dubia measures in length??

I've been considering getting a colony going (even though wife doesn't like the idea) and I had an idea.

Could you take two tubs the same size and cut a hole out of one tub bottom, line it with screen so babies don't fall through.. then stick said tub inside the other tub.?? That way all waste and other small objects could fall down into it. So for cleaning purposes you could just take the bottom tub and empty once a week or so.

Does anyone see any issues with this?? I guess it means you would have to put the heater some where else but that's ok right?

Baby dubias are the size of an adult roly poly. Aka, pretty tiny.

Also from what ive read, you only need to clean the tub every 3 months(ish) or so, living in the frass is beneficial for the babies as it provides security and nutrients (eww!) for the little itty bitties. That and the less you disturb them, the more babies they make. They shyyyyy.

My set up is a big rubbermaid tupperware. I haven't cleaned it yet and my roaches have been in there for about 3 weeks now. (New colony) I'm still building my egg carton love shacks to fill up the remaining dead space in there, and when i DO empty it im going to lift those roach motels up and place them in another container. Then I'll dump the frass out after I've rummaged for stray babies and then put my roaches back in. [I hear FREEZING the frass is good to kill any nymphs you might have overlooked as to not start feral populations either in your garden or your basement.] There are probably more efficient methods out there, but this one works for other people so I'm gonna make it work for me by golly.
Yours might just be one of those better methods, just make sure you seal that screen well. Good luck if you do that! Keep us updated I'm curious. Oh, you also might not want to put the screen over the WHOLE bottom, as in just cut out a section of the base so you can keep the humidity and temps good, and also for container stability. Those are my tips. It will be like panning for gold with that screen, haha.
