so my friend breeds dubias and i was thinking i might try them with my leo. i keep reading that dubias are better than mealworms and crickets. questions i have

1. my leo is only a little over 4 months old and was wondering if i can actually feed him them(baby dubias)

2. do i need to put them in a dish/cup or just let them roam free in his house

3. do i need to "shake and bake" them with the calcium power

Hi, dubias are fine to feed to leos at any age, just pick the smaller ones for the younger geckos. You do need to add supplement like you would for crickets or other feeders. I personally don't like to let the roaches roam free in the gecko's enclosure; dubias are shy, if you let them run free, its highly likely that they will find a hidden spot or crevice and will stay in there forever. When I feed dubias, I either tong feed to the geckos, or I release one by one in front of them; watch them chase it down before I put in another one. This way, I can keep track on how many each have eaten.

You can leave them in a dish too, but they aren't active like crickets; so not as attractive to the gecko.

I feed my hatchling geckos Dubia right from the get go, so yes you can feed them to your 4 month old gecko.

You will need the supplement them with calcium.

I feed both ways. My hatchlings that are in 6qt tubs have them running free and they always get eaten. my adults that are housed together get a dish of them at all times so they can eat when ever they feel the need.

what dish do you use that will hold the dubias in and they won't go all over the tank...?

another thing i try to do is dust them up and then throw them in the tank with their legs up... they kick and move around, catches the geckos attention pretty good...

I just dust them in an old sour cream container that I use to dust all of the feeders I use.

I have used mealworm containers from back before Dubia in all of my adult tanks that I keep the roaches in. Work great, one will get out every once in a while
