Dusting mealworms?

Hello.

I own a new juvenile leopard gecko. I'm trying to feed him mealworms*, and I don't want him to get MBD. How do I dust mealworms? Their hard chitin just makes the calcium powder fall off into the reptile carpet. I know of two methods, one would be putting mealworms in a bag and shaking the bag up with the powder in it, the other method being just putting powder in a food dish. For method 2, I don't have a food dish - this guy is too small to even notice mealworms in a gatorade cap. I'm forced to put the mealworms down right onto the carpet. This leaves me with method 1.

What happens, though, is this: when the leopard gecko bites the mealworm, all the powder that was on it falls off onto the carpet. I'm afraid that since the powder falls off onto the carpet, the gecko isn't getting the calcium and will develop MBD.

What is an efficient method of dusting mealworms with calcium powder and having the powder stay onto the worm, even after it's bitten?

*Can mealworms be a staple for juvenile geckos? I heard of mixed responses between "will cause impaction" to "perfectly fine".
