Hello everyone.

What is the best way to ID a hatchling as an eclipse, raptor or normal? Can it be told by the eyes as they hatch?

I'd look up pics of each babies eyes and compare. Hatchling eyes can be hard to determine exactly. Did you want examples of each?

Hey buddy, it's actually very easy to identify RAPTOR's and eclipse as hatchlings. The best way to tell on the eclipse gene, which is in both these morphs is the eyes. On the eclipse the eyes will be solid black, 50% black or even a small amount of black in the eye can indicate the eclipse gene. Now on the raptors it's the exact same thing, but instead of the solid black, it will be a solid red color. Now on the normals, the best way to find out is to google a pic or check eye pic threads on this site! Hope this helps.

Some photographic examples of young hatchlings would be great, if anyone would be willing to share them.

Eclipse/Raptors will hatch with white noses. There are some rare occasions when they don't show eclipse in the eyes, but you can tell by the genetics and the noses. I will have some pics posted in the show off your leos section today or tomorrow.
