Eco-Earth substrate?

Hey all! I've recently switched substrates to Eco-Earth from paper towel to see how my girl likes it and I'm hoping someone's had some experience with this stuff. If so, would you recommend it? I've gotten many diferent opinions on it that's for sure! Anyway, it's been in her viv for just almost 2 weeks and I think she's still undecided on it. Since I replaced her substrate she's not spent anytime in her cool hide. (Cool hide was also replaced with something very similar, just a bit smaller so she'd have more space to roam at night). She seems to practically live in her (sphagnum moss) humid hide. Temps are fine so I don't think it's a thermoregulating issue. Could she just not like the feeling of the new coconut fibers do you think? Anyone have any thoughts on this stuff? :main_huh:

I agree with Felicia. I use eco earth in my humid hides. works great! I would not use it in the whole enclosure. she could easily get impacted if he ate it while hunting food.
I recomend Paper towl, tile, news paper, or repti carpet.

I was using stuff simliar to that when I got my first gecko because I did read a care sheet saying they could be kept on it, after coming here and people telling me she could eat it and get impacted I switched to papertowels. I even use papertowels in the humid hides to be safe ( besides peatmoss in my laybox for my gravid female).

Thank so much everybody! You've all been a HUGE help on this! I definatley don't want to take any chances with impaction. My only problem now will be deciding which sustrate. Likely it'll be either repti carpet or tile. I just hope I don't stress her out too much with all the changes so quickly. (Sheesh! Can you say doting mom)?! :)

I just use paper towel, but if I had to pick between carpet or ceramic tile, I'd go for the tile. I've seen the carpet start to fray and come apart before, and tile seems a lot easier to clean and sanitize effectively.

Between moss and eco earth I think I have enough for humid hide to last her the rest of her life! Toooo funny! Decision made.... tile it is.... I think, although I DO like paper towel! My only problem is that I've found that crix love to get under it and hide from she who wishes to eat them. Nonetheless, PT it'll be until I set her up with something different. Looks like I'll have something fun to do this weekend after all! Thanks again for your input all!
