Was the egg fertilized? If it isnt it will Add some water around the edges of the vermiculite. DO NOT put water on the egg because it will cause mold. It may take the egg 2-3 days to absorb the water.

IMO, you can't find an egg too early. I have been lucky enough to see our females lay several times, and I take the eggs out immediately. Freshly laid eggs are still a little bit sticky, but that's the only thing that's different from finding them hours later. They are much easier to remove if they are starting to stick to something because the egg shell hasn't hardened yet.

The other geckos could have turned the egg, too.. We just had two eggs that our female laid on the paper towel (despite the fact that she had two moist hide boxes freshly moistened). By the time I woke up and found them, one was getting dark spots on the bottom of it and was oozing liquid out of one end.. My guess is that one of our leos made the embryo drown (by turnng it), and ruptured the egg by stepping on it.. Since you found several leos laying on top of the eggs, maybe something similar happened? We had to toss our egg, with the liquid oozing out, as it deflated pretty quickly.. The other egg seems to be okay, and is incubating, but is still questionable..

How's your other egg doing?

Perhaps it was infertile from the get-go.. I'm guessing this was the female's first clutch ever? Or maybe you don't know which female laid since there were several.. but the very first clutch is often just one egg, and is more likely to be infertile because the female's body doesn't know how to produce eggs properly right away

and btw, the two eggs I mentioned were our female's first clutch ever.. So maybe the other geckos didn't do anything to it, maybe that's just how they came out since it was her first time

hmmm.. I have never heard of that before, hopefully she'll lay the other one soon!! Maybe you should ask about that on another thread, I don't know if that is normal..

Ok so the egg has hardend but it still has the strange little dent in it. Will it hatch with the dent or is it a bad egg?

IMO, I don't think it should be considered bad yet. If the shell was squishy, I'd toss it, but I always keep them if the shell is good

my Leo is in the same situation!

My Smallest Leo just laid her first clutch of eggs, she uprooted half of the 55 gallon tank, buried one egg and left the other on the surface?? when i got home i immediately put them in vermiculite. They both are dented as of now,(5-7-08 when laid.) are we both in the same boat??

yours sounds like a first-year breeder that most likely just laid infertile eggs
