If the humidity was not correct, the shells do not soften enough for the egg tooth to get thru so you would need to cut them to allow the babies a chance to emerge.
If all eggs pipped at say day 55 except for one and a few days later it still hasn't pipped, you may need to cut it to check on the baby. It could be having a hard time getting out and would die int he egg if not assisted.

What is "pip" I don't think I totally understand this.

What could happen if you don't cut them?

Pipping is when the baby Snake slits the egg with its egg tooth and sticks it’s head out. As soon as one of them does it I open the rest of them to make sure they all make it out safely. What can happen is the baby just drowns in the egg. Any one that has ever bred Fat-tail Geckos knows the heart break of having an egg go full term and the baby just dieing in the egg. If there were any way to open those eggs I would be doing it also. Unfortunately it doesn’t work with Fat-tails.
