This clutchmate egg is going on 45 days now. I was wrong on the first one it hatched at 42 days. Both eggs were a little soft when the other hatched and this other one still is. No mold though, no collapsing. I'm thinking the other one hatched early, but since the egg is soft, is that normal? They were nice and firm until a few days ago.

I've had this happen too. Somtimes the other egg will get soft and then just deflate a little bit (enough to look wrinkly almost) almost as if the baby were there, tried to get out by making a break in the egg, but just couldn't. It's like they get 'stuck' in there. I've also heard of people helping them hatch by cutting the egg open a little bit, but I don't know how or when to do so. This hasn't happened to us very often, but I have seen something similar (from what is sounds like) happen. Best Wishes! Hope it hatches for you!!!

I'm not ready to try that yet. We weighed the little girl and she's only about an ounce, and from what I've read normal term leos are normally about 3? I'm just going to keep an eye on the egg and hope it doesn't start to mold or anything. I just want to know if the softness is going to be a problem or is it normal? It's soft like an infertile, but you can see the leo in there if you put a tiny flashlight right up to it.

When you can see the baby with the flashlight does it move at all?
I usually just hold it there for awile and most of the time they change positions. I would leave it alone for another day or two unless it molds or deflates.
Is an ounce the same as a gram(can't remember, lol) ? You should weigh them in grams if not.

Sarah, I meant a gram. I'm so used to measuring everything in ouces for my baby-human, that I forget to type gram with leos. I don't want to mess with the egg too much, but I'll see if the leo moves at all with the light later.

Not yet. It still looks ok though, no mold or anything and not collapsing. Guess we'll just keep waiting. If this one hatches-hopefully-after 50 days, I think it might be safe to assume that the other one was early.
