Hello all, I have always used vermiculite in my nest boxes for my female geckos to lay there eggs in. But I have run out, and my local hardware shops wont have it in for a few weeks they keep telling me. But they did have perlite which I bought a bag to use as a substrate to incubate my eggs when they arrive. But my question is perlite safe to use in the lay boxes of my female geckos?? I ask sense I have never used this product before. Also when incubating eggs on this material do I treat the perlite just like I would Verm?? Thanks again for all the help.

I don't see any issues using perlite as long as it is pesticide free. Even if the the bag says "organic" or "free of pesticides" I still rinse mine as it not only helps me to feel better about using it but it also gets rid of the "dust". I use Ecco earth but, you could also use sphagnum moss.

I use Eco-Earth (Coconut Fiber) as well. It is cheap and easy, not as messy as vermiculite IMO and the geckos seem to really like it.
