So this is the 3rd, one egg infertile clutch laid by my 62g female. I'm not sure whats going on..all three times the egg was laid outside the lay box and its only ever been one egg at a time.

I have tried reintroducing the male 3-7 days after egg laying with no success.

Female has been bred three seasons, but should that affect her this drastically?

Male is of proper weight but is his first season breeding, think the original copulation may have failed?

I feel like it could be soooo many things, any help would be great!

hate to say it but it could be any or all of those things. Males definitely do have a learning curve and some females are not at all tolerant of being used for their inept attempts. I would watch her belly closely and try pairing her when the new ovulates are about 1/2 inch in size. This can be any where from the day after to weeks after her last clutch. Some males also take longer to mature. I had a full grown 11 month old male last season show 100% no interest in females. This year, however, he's a breeding machine. Depending on how many eggs your gal has laid she also just might be at the end of her breeding life. Most females breed 3-5 seasons before their fertility and/or number of eggs they lay tapers off. Some folks think that females have a set number of ova they can produce and once those are used they can't breed anymore. Not sure if this is true but if it is you could be experiencing it first hand.

Good luck with the rest of the season! Hope it turns around for you!!
