Egg questions: How to clean gecko eggs? Maintaining moisture in GEO?

Ok...alot of people here have seen my name enough to know that I do my googling, but I need a simple confirmation or correction on a couple of things. I expect to get my first eggs ANY day now.. :D

1) To clean gecko eggs, do you just gently wipe with a damp paper towel? (I am completely guessing because my google search came up with nothing.)

2) I am using the instructions on YourGeckoGuy's "GEO" website for my GEO kit. Instructions are: 8oz perlite ("by volume, not weight") + "5oz water".

a) is the water measured by volume also? ...or by weight?

b) after setting the ratio per above instructions, I just gently slowly mist/add water once/week until it weighs the same as "weight when incubated, including eggs"??

No need to clean eggs. If there is some substrate stuck to it, no problem. Do not get the eggs wet. No misting. I measure the water and perlite with a measuring cup. If water is needed in the G.E.O. Cup , add it in the center. I do not weigh....just eyeball the moisture and add water, if needed. As long as the eggs are not touching the perlite, you do not need to worry about too much water. But moisture is important, so you don't want the perlite to dry out. Check eggs once a week, and add water if needed. Try not to keep opening the incubator, so temps stay steady. Hope this helps. :)

I am sooooo glad that I am brave enough to post "simple" questions sometimes!! Thanks soooo much!!

I forgot (because I was half-asleep, staying up and watching Ruby dig) that the GEO is designed for "water in the center" and I have read it in the same instructions that gave me the ratio... soooo sleepy last night and even now..

The absolute LIFESAVER you just gave me is "do not mist/clean the eggs...do not get the eggs wet." I surely thought it was a simple question/answer, and now that I have your answer it "clicked" in my head: How many hundreds of posts have I read about mold because the eggs were wet???

So thank you sooooo much!!

I am curious how everyone else gets such nice clean egg-pics?? Do they use a DRY paper towel to gently brush them? And if there is substrate stuck to the egg, does it increase the risk of mold because the substrate retains liquid directly in contact with the egg? (I know we need moisture in the container, and you just reminded that we don't want the eggs to actually be WET. Just need to clarify if substrate is holding "moisture" or "liquid" if it sits on the egg.)

Actually, I never worried about the substrate stuck on the egg. It normally just dries up and falls off in the GEO cup. ;)

Just so happened that my second Super Snow hatched today. As you can see, there is still some substrate stuck on the egg. No ill effect.
Incubated at 82, and hatched on day 56.:D

I use Geos abd have hatched hundreds of eggs in them. I find the best method is that of what Pat Kline has posted about.

Does not matter how damp the substrate is as it wil never touch the said eggs. Leave an about 1/2 inch gap between the geo and the substrate and all is good
