I have a clutch of eggs that is possibly due to hatch while Im going to be on vacation next week. How long can the hatchlings go without food without ill effects? Thanks in advance

I wouldn't keep in the incubator for more then a day or two, as for eating goes, They usually don't need food for about 7-10 days. (after first shed) They just need a very moist hide with plenty of water everywhere in the tub for them to drink up.

If you use and incubation container like the SIM or GEO, the hatchlings will be fine for several days. There's fluid in the egg for them to lick, and humidity to keep them moist. They don't need food right away. BUT if you have eggs directly in substrate, after a day or two, it's possible for them to ingest a piece of vermiculite, or whatever medium you use. This is why people who have reptiles don't often take vacations, or at least have someone trusted to come in and check on the animals. You can't just go off and leave babies.

Breeding animals is like having a baby. Play time stops.

breeding reptiles IS my playtime :main_thumbsup:

but i do agree about not leaving them in the incubator. i would suggest having someone come and check on them every other day or so while you are gone. and make sure it's someone who isn't afraid of geckos, trust me, lol

Okay I was off on my timing. I got back and the eggs haven't hatched yet. My mom came by everyday and checked on them while I was gone so they wouldn't be left in the incubator. Thanks everybody.

I'm having this same issue. I was asked to house sit for a few days this weekend and I have a clutch due to hatch any day now. day 47 right now incubated at 83-84* the eggs look nice and plump. I poked a couple holes in the container and put a bottle cap of water. They should be okay, but the perlite getting in their mouths is what I'm "meh" about.
