how long can eggs be in the lay box with the female before they'll start to go bad? I'm expecting eggs any day now but i'm also going home for easter this weekend and I can't take everything home with me. I'm just worried if she lays tonight and I don't come back til Sunday night they're going to be dead.:main_no:

I can't give you an exact answer but I have had eggs laid and I didn't find them until a few days later and they still hatched fine. Some people just completely didn't find eggs and they went on to hatch. I think the hatchlings didn't look perfectly healthy though.

Eggs are pretty tough but too wet in the lay box and they swell and rot in a matter of days. Too dry in the lay box and they shrivel up but on both accounts most can be saved. Basically when too wet change the situation and make sure its not too wet in the incubator and visa versa for dry. You can get dry eggs back to normal in a matter of hours. But never spray water on the eggs to do this. Also I have found that some freak out about handling the eggs while getting them out of the lay box. But I have found by accidently turning a few that they still hatch. But I still try and keep in mind not to turn them and be gentle. Its strange how I have had a really bad looking egg hatch with no problems!!! Good Luck and don't forget to show us the cuties when they hatch! Oh and humidity in the incubator should be around 80 but its been alittle higher and a tad lower with no ill effect. Another important factor is air flow open the egg container at least once a week(even if there is air holes) Air flow is Important! Some or all of this you may already know but just wanted to tell it all just in case. My first year of breeding I only lost two eggs, one was still born and two babies after birth just wouldn't grow like their sibs. So out of 100+ eggs I did something right. :main_thumbsup: Deb
