End of toes (claws) bent to the side.

I acquired gecko a few days ago, she is fully grown and quite large (nice fat tail) however the previous owner did not know her age and I understand it is hard to age them after they are fully grown. She has trouble climbing things as the end of most of her toes are bent to the side, meaning her claws are at the side and not on the bottom of the feet. Does anyone know why this could be? Could it be due to her being old? Are there any tell tale signs to look out for that could age her?
