ok so i have been searching for the answer but havent had any luck. what happens if both male and female have the enigma gene? do you get a super form? or is it lethal like the spider x spider cross for ball pythons is believed to be? and by lethal i mean dead eggs.

No I think there are some people on here that breed enigma x enigma so hopefully they will answer with observations of offspring and hatch rates

Yes you can breed enigma to enigma it is always better to out cross but to isolate a certain gene it is fine. I have had no problem when doing it although eggs incubated at higher temps I have noticed have a little more issue's than lower temp incubation. That goes for enigma's in general not E X E.

Hope this helps

thanks, thats kinda what i was thinking but i just wanted to get a few more opinions. i'm going to be pairing a male snowglow enigma to a female sunglow enigma. both of which are gorgeous.

I actually asked the same question in a picture thread from the Show Off Your Leos section, and Tony replied with this very interesting info (thanks Tony :))

Assuming both parents are heterozygous Enigmas, Enigma x Enigma should yield 25% homozygous Enigmas, 50% heterozygous Enigmas, and 25% normal. Since Enigma is a dominant trait there would be no visual difference between a homozygous and heterozygous Enigma, the only way to know which is which would be to test breed. A homozygous will produce 100% Enigma offspring, while a heterozygous will produce 50% Enigma offspring.

So basically, there is no super form. With Mack Snows, for example, the Super form (Super Mack Snow) is the homozygous form and Mack Snow is the heterozygous form. In this case, the phenotype (visual characteristics) are different. But for Enigmas, the het. and homo. phenotypes are the same.

thank you. that little bit slipped my mind. in order to be a super the trait must be a co-dom. duh! well we'll just have to try it and see. the wait is going to kill me
