enigmas

I was thinking about adding some enigmas to my collection and i was wondering, is the enigma syndrome really that bad? I mean some of the stuff I have read discourage me about even ever buying one. But some of the enigma crosses I have seen are just so amazing. Does every gecko have the syndrome as bad as the others. would I still get a lot of spinners from a enigma combo morph to another none enigma morph?

There is a lot of individual variation, from practically asymptomatic to severely effected. One thing you can do to minimize the risk is to buy adult geckos that have fully matured and ask the breeder how severe the symptoms are in the individual that you want.

Go on YouTube and look up enigma leopard gecko. You will see some bad cases and some mild cases of the syndrome on there. I take it you haven't watched actual videos yet and from most people I have talked to that actually own enigmas they say that most of them don't display the syndrome that bad at all.

Buying a enigma is just a gamble that you have to be willing to take. If you are buying it from a breeder buy from a big breeder someone with a big reputation. That way when you ask them they should be completely honest with you about if because if they lie and you post it on the BOI it's gonna make them look bad.

It's a nuerological disorder so every enigma will have the problem, some will display it worse then others. As far as combo morph I started a thread about it on this same page go there and look for info if your interested but as long as it has enigma in it the gecko will still have the possibility of having the syndrome bad or not bad at all.

I have watched a bunch of enigma videos on youtube, I was mainly worried that from breeding the enigma to a none enigma if I would still end up with a lot of spinners that I would be stuck with forever.

If it has the enigma gene in it then you may or may not get enigmas that display the syndrome bad or not bad. I've seen threads about people breeding a enigma that spinner really bad and it produced babies that had hardly any symptoms, but at the same time have bred enigmas that showed barely any symptoms and produced bad spinners.

I think it's truely luck of the draw with enigmas so just make sure you are prepared to deal with as you may get a bad spinner. You can buy a enigma from a breeder and it can barely show the syndrome at all but later in it's life it may get the syndrome really bad but then you can't blame it on the breeder as you know how the enigma gene works.

Enigmas are like a enter at your own risk sign, everything may work out fine or you may have a very bad experience. Enigmas make beautiful combo morphs and I'm gonna be getting a enigma morph soon..
