I was hoping some of you wonderful people that are working with afghans could help me out with a bit of info please. I was lucky enough to acquire a trio of F1 cb afghan hatchlings at the start of 2012. They are wonderful little geckos and were looking forwards to breeding them next year. I know they are reputed to be a smaller sized subspecies. My question is.....how small ? My two females have grown on well and sit around 40-45 gms in weight. However the male is much slimmer and his weight is hovering around 25gms. Routine faecal screens are clear, he eats fine, looks in superb condition but just a very small gecko. I cant determine whether this is pretty normal size for an afghanicus male or a sign that something is not right. Hes housed alone, eats fine etc etc.

Many thanks for any input you can provide

My pures were always around 45 grams as adults. It's possible that your male is just a slow grower. He may eat less if he smells females ovulating (not sure if that's the case). You say he eats fine. How much does he eat and how often?

I only have one male pure afghan and he seems to be growing slower than normal also. I have a female afghan raptor cross that was the same size as him they eats the same and now she is quite a bit heavier, so maybe the males just take a while to grow. Anyway I'd love to see pictures of this group and good luck.
