Hey,
I'm new to this site and leopard geckos in general. I'm thinking about getting one and wanted to know if any of you guys have used the excavator substrate by exotera? http://www.zoomed.com/html/cage_substrates_home.php
I thought it would be a good idea to use it to carve out some caves for my future gecko. Or would it cause too many hazards like impaction? Also where can I find a good care sheet? Thanks.

i don't know anything about that substrate, i have tile in my gecko's tank as do a lot of the other people here from what i can tell.

if you already know about impaction you're ahead of a lot of people as far as research before getting a gecko is concerned, but this caresheet is probably the one that's most commonly linked to around these parts.

I also use tile. And that stuf is used mostly for burrowing animals. leos aren't reely classified as burrowers. i would use tile or paper towels like said above. and i definitely recommend that care sheet at marcia's website

The stuff is worthless. You have to made the holes and tunnels yourself, your gecko cant do it. Its hell to clean and it hardens like theres no tomorrow. It took us over a month to get the last bits of it out of the 10 gallon we tested it in.

It's much to hard even forsmall things that are made to burrow. It is to hard for things that have burrowing heads as well.

Thanks for the replies. I can't tell you how much junk I've bought for my chameleon to only find out that it is useless. I didn't think about how hard it would be to clean out.
