Excessive shedding and weight loss?

One of our jungle giant boys isn't doing so well. He has been shedding every week on the dot for a while now, at least 2 months. He is over 5 years old and full grown, and its not like he is getting bigger, he is actually losing weight. The thing is, every time he sheds, he does very very poorly with skin usually stuck on his head, face, vent, tail, and legs too. We have been soaking him and assisting him with his shedding every week and we have no clue what is going on. He also has stopped eating about 2 weeks ago and is becoming lethargic. My fiance thinks he may have a layer of skin stuck somewhere we can't find it and he is trying to shed every week to compensate and to try to get rid of the stuck shed?

Physically he doesn't seem to visually have anything wrong with him and none of his appendages look lighter as to show where any stuck shed may be. Because of this I don't see a reason to post pics as he looks normal and is just shedding alot, and terribly so, and is also losing weight any advice would be welcome...

He pretty much stopped eating for us even though we offer food frequently. Any advice from anyone about this?

I know this is an older post but I hope people will still follow it. I have a friend experiencing the same problem. Molting every week, skin sticking to the toes and face, losing weight and not eating. Did anyone figure out the cause or what to do to help the little guy? How are they today?

Not eating/losing wt/shedding

I was excited to find this thread, but then disappointed to see it was older and that no one really had an explanation. Ours has been doing the same thing. Stopped eating on her own all together several weeks ago(no matter what feeder offered), refused all alternative food, losing weight and shedding often. We are currently in the process of syringe feeding her daily the slurry recipe found here. She doesn't like it of course, but we're getting something in her daily. I wanted to see if maybe someone would have an explanation now? :help:

I just wanted to add...I have a 1 year old female Raptor who was going through the same thing, starting in Feb/March, she suddenly had a loss of appetite, with no interest in any food items. Luckily before she started with this, she had a good fat hefty tail. She went for about 3 weeks w/o eating one bite of food, and shedding constantly. Every week she was shedding, and always had stuck shed around her face. I was giving her a suana every 5 days! She was losing weight, but started to slowly gain a little more interest in food, she'd eat a cricket here, or a superworm there, but it was sporatic. Its now May, and she has just started to poop somewhat regularly again, and pretty much has her appetite back, the excessive shedding seems to have stopped, and now I'm waiting for her to gain back her weight she lost. I don't have an answer why, but I'll be posting updates.

Just to update you. I never did figure out what it was. The sheadding stopped but her eyes were sealed shut and she never started eating again. The weight loss got to the point that the suffering had to end. I wish I could have figured it out.

I just wanted to give an update. She started her hunger strike Feb/Mar 2011.
Originally weighing approx. 65g and probably lost a good 25g during that hunger strike! Her tail and body were considerably thinner. She started getting her true appetite back (and not just taking sporatic feeders here and there) approx. June/July 2011, and has been ravenous ever since! She totally has gained almost, if not all, of her weight back, and is doing wonderful

Old post, but new to me.
Did you ever take him to the vet? I ask because fungal infections can cause skin shedding or mimic the appearance of shedding skin.
