Hi! My girlfriend found these forums after my recent adoption of a new Juvenile Leopard Gecko and had to join! :2thumbsup:

I'm loving my new gecko so far, had her (as far I could tell it's a she but I heard it's hard to tell when they are young) for about 3 days now. Seems a little shy and spends most of her time inside of her cave/hide that I got her. I hope to have her be a part of the family for a long time, and many happy memories to come. :)

I tried holding her for the first time yesterday so I could clean her cage, it took about 30 mins of holding my hand in her cage to crawl up on it, I didn't want to just pick her up because I was worried she was already stressing out enough about the move and new environment. Luckily she finally crawled onto my hand willingly, she seems to love trying to crawl up my arm, lol.

I just had a quick question, as far as checking the temperature with a digital thermometer with a probe, do I just tape it onto the reptile carpet to get an accurate reading? I heard that only ground temp is important since they absorb heat through their bellies. Right now it's reading about an average of 92ish on the warm side. :)

Also I'm feeding her about 4 calcium-with-vitamin-d3 dusted meal-worms a day, I bought a container of 50 from P******t. They told me they are already gutted but I was thinking about throwing some carrots or something like that in the container and leave it out of the fridge for a day for them to eat to be more well-gutted.

So anyways, Hi everyone and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions to ask over time, lol. :main_thumbsup:

Edit: Oh and here's some pics of my new Leo. :) Sorry a little blurry. xD

Cute little leo! I would feed her as much as she wants to eat. You can keep a whole bowl of meal worms out 24/7 and let her get her fill. I would also alternate dusting with the calcium with d/3 and just plain calcium. There is always a possibility of overdosing on d3, so I usually use that about once a week. I also feed my babies crickets daily.
I do tape the probes of the thermometers on the carpet on some of my cages, just because I dont like it to get knocked around and the temps get read wrong. Anyways, congrats on your new leo.
Welcome to GF

Thank you! :) Your leo looks cute too from what I see on your avatar, I can't wait to see how mine grows.

I'll go ahead and throw in some more meal worms and keep her bowl filled with them. I didn't know they could overdose on d3, thanks for the info! I'll purchase some plain calcium tomorrow then for sure and maybe purchase some crickets for her to chase after.

I'm glad I did the thermometer probe correctly, I heard 88-95 degree's is good for the warm side? I'm using just an UTH and seems to be keeping it pretty warm by itself.

Thanks again for the welcome! ^_^
