Here are some new friends of mine...

Extatosoma tiaratum, aka Giant Prickly Stick Insect.

I have a weakness for stick insects... Especially ones that smell like peanut butter when threatened.

Sorry for the bad picture. I'll take more once I finish setting up their new home.

Nope, it's a 3 and 1/4th oz deli cup lid they're on. They're little itty bitty buggers right now.

I bought them, they were at my local reptile specialty shop.

They had the Vietnamese ones too (Baculum extradentatum), but I'm more fond of the Aussies.

Haha, yep! Many keepers report the "threat" smell to smell like peanut butter or toffee. Not too threatening to humans and dogs I imagine.

Will do! They should be matured in 4 months, at latest. So hopefully there will be some size increase. Haha!

I love Extatosomas but they make too many hatchlings.
500 from 3 big females hatched now and lots of eggs.
They´re looking great.

Might I ask which local reptile shop you got them at? Always wanted to get some. could stop by at the same place. those things are sick!

Oh man I was just their yesterday. didn't check should have known , they are the best reptile store that I have found around the area.
