ExTech Infared Thermometer?

Anyone know anything about the reliability of the ExTech infrared thermometer from Radio Shack? I bought one today because I wanted it before Christmas and didn't want to worry about the mail, and stupidly thought it must be okay b/c it was like $80, same as the Raytek people recommended on this site ... Now that I've gotten it home and read the instructions, it says it's only guaranteed accurate within 6 degrees.

Is this normal or unacceptable for infrared? It's been pretty consistent -- meaning if I measures the same spot six times in a row, it gives me the same temperature -- but the possibility of being six degrees off seems like a lot when measuring hot spots in my Leo's terrarium. I'm trying to decide whether to return it and just order the Raytek, or give it a shot.

I don't know anything about it, but I would say $80 for something that is +/- 6 degrees is not worth it. That basically gives you a range of 12 degrees that your temp could be in. I think it may be a better idea to just deal with the mail, than spend that much for that. Hope I helped...
