This sux...my best friend, who already has 2 huge dogs in a small 2 bedroom apartment, wants to get a ball python. Her and her dad are already having money problems and can bairly afford the dogs and now she wants a snake...erg...Im totally agaisnt her doing this...ok heres the thing...

She doesnt have a job and thinks that she is going to get one in the next 2 weeks or so, which she isnt going to do because finding jobs down here right now is horrible. She can get the snake itself for free and thinks that she will be able to pay for everything like food and the tank and everything with the job she THINKS shes getting in the next couple weeks. She also thinks that with the job she can pay for her phone bill, upkeep for the dogs, and the snake...i dnt think so...

I keep explaining to her that owning a reptile is expensive...its not just buying a $3 frozen mouse once a week. The electric bill is going to go up, because of the heat lamp needing to be on almost all the time, and if the thing gets sick, vet bills for reptiles are sky high...Its just not sinking in...and Im worried that if she gets this thing, aside from her not even knowing how to take care of a reptile, that if the thing gets sick they will have to put it down or let it die because they cnt afford the vet bill...

I even offerd to help her pay for the upkeep and everything if she made it our snake...but no she denied that offer....I just dnt know wat to do...The person giving the snake away owns the groomer we take our dogs to...the snake is staying at their gooming solon for now....I mean she already named the damn thing...

Her name is Bella...I took some pics when I was there this afternoon...

Looks like a very nice Ball. I say use duct tape and tape her mouth shut and tape her hands and feet together so she will be quiet and can't leave while you lecture her. Ok so I am joking about the duct tape ( or am I ;) )

Looks like you're going to be the Fairy God auntie to Bella...be prepared to be taken advantage of if you keep offering your money for her expenses. She's going to get it & there's nothing you can do to stop her. All you can do is help make sure the set up is done right. Help her find the things she needs on freecycle.org or craigslist or any of those free sites that exist.

is your friend aware that she is like that (stubborn, "do-it-myself-if-it-kills-me"), or no? because if she is, you could just point it out to her that she is "being like that again" or whatever.. if not, maybe you really should make a point of it. Even if she does yell at you, maybe you'll have to yell at her to really get things across to her... that's what friends are for :) my best friend yells at me when I do stupid things, and in retrospect, I've always loved her for it

but other than that, there isn't much that you can do.. When it comes time to where she realizes that she cannot keep the snake because she can't afford it, do you think she will let you take it off of her hands as "your snake" then?

Yeah, dogs and apartments don't mix very well unless you really take the dog out and walk it everyday.. she really is head-strong, huh? Is there someone that you know that could take the snake just in case she can't properly take care of it?

if my mom would let me I wld take the thing...but she wldnt get rid of it even if the thing was starving....when her dog was sick and throwing up and had diarea all ovr the house and her dad wld take him to the vet cuz he didnt have the money i told her u have to think of wat is best for the dog and all that....the dogs fine now but still hasnt been to the vet and they can bairly afford food for them...it drives me insane....and she knows my thoughts on all of it but chooses to ignore them...there really is no talking to her about it....

and yea these are the two dogs....Harley, the rottie, catahula mix they have had since he was a baby and he was fine in the apartment but then they got the other one...Scooby, the Ridgeback, boxer mix and there is like no room...and they barley get walked...when I was taking care of them when she was in France for the week I dnt think those dogs ever got out that much....i just dnt know....erg...

This is Harley...hes a goof...lol...

Wow I know someone like this! Unfortunately they already got their Golden Gecko too! (See they were under the impression that it would be just like my Leo, easy to take care of, friendly etc... oh & cheap, they thought it'd be cheap XD, I've read that Golden Geckos can be some of the hardest to keep, VERY expensive, not-friendly (they're meant for display ONLY) & can stress very easily) I know what you're going through, except I couldn't offer to pay for her things although she is jobless, because she really doesn't deserve it... Why just last week she said to her boyfriend "If you buy me this shirt, you don't have to get the dog's shots." Terrible, isn't it? I know.
