I have an appt for saturday for my n ew rescued leopard geckos. Somenoe on this forum told me one of my girls might have an eye infection!!!

What do you think - her eye is really cloudy on one side and the other is half cloudy!! She can see too so shes not going blind.

Oh no :(. That's no good, looks like an infection. That's terrible that the person that sold them to you would take such poor care of her. By the looks of her "left/lesscloudy" eye it almost looks like some skin is in the eye. G/l sounds like drops and soaks may be in order for your Leo.

O by the way this was on my vet's web page and it kinda looks like a less sever eye cap problem that the Leo on that page has. http://www.azeah.com/Care-Sheets.asp?id=117

oh my dear lord!! those pics were GRAPHIC! I feel sooo damn helpless cuz i dont have any idea on what to really do - i really appreciate everyones replies!!!! I'll drop some saline in her eye tonight. and hopefully I'll get a better look - i only got her yesterday so i didn't want to bother her too much - shes been through a lot so far.

I am definitely seeking medical attention for her ASAP! I wish i could have came in today but they were fully booked.

well turns out my lizard does not have parasites or any infections everything that is wrong with her is jus from neglect and not having proper nutrition.. She didn't have a humid hide and now has an eye problem we can not fix. she is blind and has the chance of getting better.. I will be assist feeding her - if any one has tips for me it would be greatly appreciated - I've never dealt with anything like this before!!!

well she can survive being blind and so that way yes should could and IS going to get better!!!

With the blind thing, it's a possibility that she will get SOME vision ... It's hard to say right now, we will find out after shes getting the nutrition needed. Also I've provided a humid hide with peat moss which will hold the humidity better so that will also help!

Ok, I know you have been to the Vet.
I know a blind Diagnosis was given.
BUT:
I would suggest you look at and read a post
that looks like your girl does.
They were told the same thing, but it
ended up being shed that remained
on the eyes.
Scummy stuff started coming off and cleared.
I was shocked after seeing it and learning
what the final outcome actually was.
And how it was successfully treated.
I hope I can locate it.
Take care. HJ

I kinda agree with gecko gathering that seems really odd that she would just be blind like that, also even with vitamin A deficiency and skin getting stuck in her eye after shedding i would think that there wouldn't be sever damage to the eye, like the link i posted earlier, that gecko was in extremely bad condition but still was able to see after the removal of the eye caps though some damage had occurred in her eyes. In any case good luck with your gecko and i Hope she does better and regains some eyesight.

the vet said the one eye thats bulging out could be from some damage to the eye - she evfen said it could be from someone trying to take wat they think a cap is off the eye...

I understand your all trying to help - but i took her to the vet and honestly, I am gonna listen to the vet before anyone else.. she has 15 years experience with reptiles and her partner who she has worked with for 9 years has almost 30 years experience.

Malnutrition will cost problems with the eyes... that was the first thing she said to me, she looked in her mouth for any (i forget the name its early in the morning) i think its a hemerage that would make the eye bulge out the way it is and it wasn't there, her eye problems are from malnutrition. and i dont know if its vitamin a or c i have no idea she did not say.

I am very confident that her eye problems and weight loss are from malnutrition, she has no parasites and nothing in her eyes. she even lifed the lid of her eye and the lower lid.

yea i read that entire thread before I went to the vet - i read every thread i could find on eye infections so i could ask many questions when i took her to the vet, they checked the eyes and she did even flush them no charge for me. she lifted the eye lids to see if anything was there and it wasn't. she couldn't touch the one eye becuz we have to wait til theres scar tissue so hopefully the bulge will jus fall off. also she has NO signs of infection, and the way this lil girl was living i believe it is malnutrition. these two girls are not even a year old and they have been gravid 4-10 times. i managed to weigh her and she was jus barely 20 grams.

also. after the vet checked her out and answered all my questions she took her to the back to show the other vet (with more reptile experience roughly 30 years ) and he agreed with her.

i have talked to many ppl that took their reptiles there and said they were amazing drs. very thoughtful, caring, and knowlegable !!!

oh and p.s. i didn't mean to be rude abotu the im gonna listen to the vet before anyone else, but on this forum i've had ppl tell me to get tweezers and try to take the cap off her eye (the one that looks like cateracs) soo im a lil weary of comments now wen it comes to this girl. i've goten many many many many different opinions on wat it is. lol
some ppl were swearing it was parasites, it wasn't, somesaid it was a cap, it wasn't , some said it was an eye infection and it wasn't. so im jus gonna do wat the vet told me to do and see how she does. if she doesnt' start improving in the next month im taking her back to the vet.

I know a treatment that has been used ill put it on here. Do note that it was used for an infection I know you are taking vets advice but I figured it can't do much harm eh?
Tobramycin Ophthalmic solution
Enrofloxacin 25mg/ml
both of those produced rapid results when dropped into leos eyes. The 2nd one is prescription only I think though.
