Hey Guys,
I just got this baby Friday. She is approx 10g and a few months old. She is in a 10gal tank on Papertowel. Can you please look at her eye and tell me what you think? It seems to be stuck shut. The other one is open. She has a moist hide. I spray her every other day and I spray the tank every day.
Today I put her in a warm bath and soaked her for 10 minutes. I also rubbed warm water on the eye with a qtip.
I also sprayed a stream of saline solution in her eye a few times. I cannot see anything in it. It just seems stuck ship.
Any thoughts?
I'm hoping maybe I helped it today and it will be better in the morning.
Thanks,
Chet

I would see how she is tomorrow but has it been like that since you have had her? I have no experience with that. Could it be a genetic defect? I hope it gets better soon and hopefully someone with more knowledge can come on here and help.

No. It was fine when I got her. I just noticed it yesterday. I am new to geckos so I am just really nervous. I don't think it is shed and I don't think she got anything in it. I wonder if it could be an eye infection or something.

I can't tell by the photo, but is it also swollen? You shouldn't need to be spraying her and the tank down. I'd leave her in a warm soak for longer, 20-30 min, in a covered container. If it's a stuck shed, working it out with a saline soaked q-tip will do the trick. You'll need a qualified reptile vet right away if this continues to be an issue. Where did you get this gecko? .

When my gecko wouldnt open her eye we took her to the vet and it turns out it was an eye infection, they can get pretty bad if they arent treated so I would take it to a vet. The meds they gave us were like a cream that you just put on the eyes, they ususally say put it in both eyes because my gecko licks her eyeballs alot so she started to spread her infection to the other eye as well. My sisters gecko gets shed stuck in his eye alot and it never looks like that, so my opinion is its an eye infection.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I'm going to do another warm soak tonite and try the Qtip with Saline again. I have a vet appt for 8:30 tomorrow morning so one way or another, she should be fine tomorrow.

GREAT NEWS. I followed Laney's advice. I took a small Chinese food container and put a few paper towels in the bottom. Then added about 1/2 of really warm water. I put Snowflake in there and put the top on. I left one side of the top unsealed so air could get in and I let her soak in the warmth and steam for about 15 minutes. When she same out, both eyes were wide open. We are so happy that she is OK. Thanks for all the advice. Caring for these awesome little creatures can be nervewracking especially for a newby like me.
