I have heard that once the tail has stored as much fat as it can, it then start to store behind the arms. Is this true? Take a look at the pic I have posted and let me know what you guys think.

Thanks in advance.

I cant say as I've never seen that in the 100 leos ive had in my possession. However I can say I've got geckos with MUCH bigger tails and they havent stored that much fat under their pits. But I have heard of them doing this. just dont know what it looks like

I don't think that I have ever seen that either but that doen't mean that there is anything to worry about

Duchess doesn't have that and she has the fatest tail of all my Leos

Fat deposits around the front 'armpits' is not at all uncommon, especially with females. This can be an indication that she is in good condition for breeding! There are, however, instances when these fatty areas are not really fat at all, and could be lymphatic drainage caused by an excess of calcium. This is usually not a problem, especially when females are getting ready for egging.

In either case, it really isn't anything to worry about.

She started laying eggs around 10 months old and laid like 8 fertile clutches, a 9th clutch (her first one) was infertile because I didn't realize she was developing eggs. I'll take it that it's fat reserve or excess calcium and maybe cut back a little on calcium and food intake just to see if it goes away. If it does then I'll feel better.

Thanks for the responses.

If i were you id breed her right now, because in both leo manuals they say the fat pits under the arms are a sure sign of being ready for productive breeding in both males & females.

There are other very important conditions for the female to be ready to breed:

1.) she is ovulating
2.) she is large/mature enough to lay eggs
3.) she is in top physical condition

Ditto on what Marcia said. Also she just got done her first egg laying season in September. You should always give atleast a 3-4 month break in between breeding attemps. This way you don't burn her out and she can regain any lost weight she might have endured during the egg laying season. As for the fat pits and what the manual says, that just means they are of size for breeding, it doesn't mean they are ready for breeding at that exact moment.
