Fat Pippin

Hey,

I have a quick question about my little Pippin, he's really colouring up beautifully now and seems really happy in his new home, I've had him about 3 months and he's now 6 months old. I just weighed him and he's 10g! Does that make him a massive fatty? Am I overfeeding him? Is heavy good for a young Crestie, or is that in fact normal for a 6month old? He just loves those Crickets...

Thanks,
Kat

These guys all grow differently and at different rates. This is only a major problem if youre feeding alot of insects as they will put weight and size on them quickly however they lack on the good nutrition of the CGD. IF youre only feedin insects 1-2x a week max, youre fine.

cheers for the reply.
I put around 4-5 crickets in, up to a maximum of twice a week for a gap of at least 4 days in between. I also put in GCD twice a week on days when I'm not feeding him crickets. I'm worried that he doesn't east enough GCD even though I give him plenty, I've never actually seen him eating it before without me spoon feeding him, and it always looks as if nothing has been eaten when I come to clean out his bowl. Is there anyway I can get him to like the GCD more/ anyway of monitoring how much of it he is eating?

Thanks,
Kat

You can leave the CGD in for a second night, sometimes they like it better on night 2 ;). If you want to make sure he's eating more CGD, you can cut back on the crix to maybe one night a week. Unless you pour a shallow layer in the bowl (so you can see lick marks) you probably won't notice any food missing, however the shallower you make it, the faster it dries out, so it might not last until the second night.

Make sure he knows where his CGD is. My old 'Sticky' had to be shown. The first month we had her she didn't go near it. I started setting her in front of it and holding her to it until she gave it a lick, and continued this two days before I started catching her eating it on her own.
