For those of you who only ship out a fed ex-was it hard to set up an account ? Did you have to have state licensing to sell? I just called my fedex about the weather here and delays and went to ask about shipping and was told I had to set up an account to be able to ship live animals. That just made me wonder if you had to go through a bunch of state or county hoopla too, and declare yourself a business etc.

I may be wrong (because I ship through UPS), but I don't believe you have to do anything to ship live reptiles any more except according to the Lacy act you must label the box with the scientific name and quantity. Snakes are excluded. For example, when I ship, the box is labeled:

LIVE HARMLESS REPTILES
(3) Eublepharis Macularius Geckos
PERISHABLE - KEEP AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

If you are in doubt, you can read their TOS on the FedEx website:
http://www.fedex.com/us/services/terms/us.html
Pay extra attention to the "Prohibited Items" section.

Well according to them leos are allowed, but only under a business to business. I'll have to call them, because I've received leos from non business titles people. I'll check out ups too.

I had to get certified to ship FedEx. It's takes about two weeks because you have to submit a test sample/box.

You should first set up an account online. Then you need to get a hold of your local rep. Sometimes it takes a few calls for them to get you to the right person. They will then set up for live shippment. I had a good link if I find it I will post.

Setting up the actual account online was no sweat. However, submitting the test package and finding out WHO my account rep was (changed several times within two months) was a little frustrating. I've heard that it has become much easier since then, however.

No. FedEx (to the best of my knowledge) doesn't require any governmental licensing for shipping reptiles, although I did have to obtain the "certificate" to ship live harmless reptiles. The "certificate" however, is little more than a fax that my rep signed. lol

I've never run into an issue with FedEx regarding any governmental hoopla. :) Like Marcia mentioned though, you will need to abide by the requirements of the Lacy Act, as well as meet the requirements FedEx has for shipping reptiles.

I hope that helps!

Thanks, I got the name of my local rep through the animal department at fedex, so I'm good there. I'll do the online thing, I didn't know I could start there. I might do ups too just to have two shipping options available. Florida's funny sometimes, so I hope I don't run into any problems.
