I just fed my crickets some tropical fish food for the first time and they went crazy for it! The fish food is high in protein which is why I bought it to gut load the crickets. My question is if any one else has tried this before and if so did they see any ill effects in the crickets/lizards?

Fish flakes great, No Problems...Except Kinda Pricey.
Layer Hen Crumbles from a Farm Store.
Great for gut loading everything.
Not.....Chick Starter.
Take care. HJ

I've been breeding crickets for about a year now and that's all I feed them is tropical fish food. For a water supply I give them cotton makeup pads moistened in water. They do very well on it.

I do the same with my crickets, but they keep dying on me. I buy a dozen a week, sterilizing their cage in between purchases, but I still lose at least 4 before I get a chance to feed them to my leo. I change the cotton ball each day. Do you have any advice for keeping them alive?

First off I urge U to switch to raoches, which stay within feeding size for at least 3-4 months, then can be left off the heat and will stay small for 6 months or more. The fish food is good for the geckos but a little too high in protein for raising crickets. Flukers makes a 6lb jar of feed for around $10 Id raise them on that, then gutload before feeding.

Most definitely will. We've started colonies of dubia and mealworms, the crix are just a temporary measure until the colonies are up and running.

I have been using gold fish flakes for a long time, and for water I use the Flukers yellow gel... it goes a long way.

Natalia,
What temps are you keeping them at? I keep several hundred in each bin (large rubbermaid bin) with a screened top and a 40 watt bulb placed over the top. I keep egg carton under the lighted area. This gives them a warm area on top of the egg carton or a cooler area where fish food and water are kept on the other side of the bin and underneath the carton. I usually find them tanning themselves. :main_cool3:
But I have very little die off considering the quantity of crickets.
Could they just be on the older end of adulthood?

I'm switching over to mealies and supers but I have to keep some crix around for my RETF. Hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em! The mealies and supers are just so much cleaner.
