Hey all,

Im new to the forum, I signed up just after getting Cid, a lil 3 month old Crested,

cidandsam.jpg

All it is, we had him for about a week and he had baby food, and seemed ok, however we switched to Komodo Premium CGD, and been mixing both, but he just doesn't seem to want to touch the Komodo, Im not there to watch him 24/7, but when i come back from work, his food bowl doesn't seem to go down...

To make sure he liked it, i used to get the baby food on my little finger and place it in front of him and he'd happily eat the whole lot, plus more, but with the Komodo, he just moves his head away and wont go near it.

Any idea why this might be, have i bought the wrong food? Or is something else up?

on a second note, i've just got him out today, he lives in a square foot tank until hes abit bigger and i can afford to get a bigger one, and as soon as hes out, hes jumping to anything in range and legging it! im not sure if he just wants to stretch his legs or whats up,

Cheers

Get rid of the baby food altogether its bad for your crestie and doesnt have what your guy requires .... stick to just CGD and like once every week or two calcium dusted crickets if you choose.....
What substrate do you have? Your best bet is to have him on paper towels so you can monitor whether he poops or not.. its not always easy to tell if they have been eating or not but if hes pooping hes eating !!!

Ah great, yeah, ive heard the baby food isnt good, just seems its the only thing he will eat.
Ill have a nosey at the local pet shop for some, will he need a smaller size crickets considering hes only 3 months?

Its a dry bark, which is impossible to tell! haha, ill give it a clean out and put some paper towels down to see how hes doing,

Thanks for the reply =] just getting worried as we all do!

understandable but they can go a fair while without eating :) for my two babies I just use the tiny crickets dusted in calcium.... baby food for cresties is like candy for kids its much sweeter so they would rather eat that than food which is good for them lol

He can be weaned off baby food by adding CGD to it, little by little. Not much at first so he doesn't notice it, but gradually. Mix it thoroughly so he can't pick around it.

Thanks soo much for the info, =]

I've started adding the CGD to the baby food, i went for an apple and pear food, that is about 97% fruit, and will pop to the pet shop to grab some crickets at weekend! should be a nice treat!

If you have trouble switching from baby food to CGD, you can always order Rapashy Fruit Mix. It is papaya/banana flavored and has the proper supplements in it just like CGD, but was designed to be a little sweeter to help transition geckos from baby food over to CGD or used as a treat. You can order it from Pangea. I have a few picky eaters and they do enjoy the Rapashy Fruit Mix as a treat.

You want to make sure the dusted crickets are no bigger than the space between the gecko's eyes. If you offer insects, then only offer it once a week at the most...with the CGD every other night. I wouldn't feed crickets or other insects in an enclosure that has any type of loose substrate. Note: some geckos like their CGD fresh and some like it 1-2 days old. Since it is only 3 mos, they do not eat a lot like the adults do and their poop will be really tiny, 1/2-3/4 the size of a grain of rice. It is best to keep them on papertowels until you are sure they are eating properly. They can lay poop on the under side of leaves or branches, so when looking for poop, look everywhere.
