I've been searching the forum for thirty minutes trying to find out how I would store mealies? Can I assume that in a container on oat substrate with apples etc for moisture?

and I've read you can use the tops to milk and other drink containers as food/water/calcium dishes. How accurate is this?

Thanks for everything

You can store them on oats, and also you can buy whole grain cereals and grind them up as well.

I would only give them apples once every couple days, and only give them a couple small pieces. You don't want to give them more than they can eat, because you don't want the oats to get moldy from the moisture.

As for a water dish, they don't need that.

And, I am not sure if you know, but you can keep the mealworms in your refrigerator, they will go into a semi hibernation mode and they will last a long time. Just take them out once a week to wake up and that is when I would give them the apples to eat.

Actually, were you talking about using the milk caps for water bowls for the mealworms or for your Gecko? If for your Gecko, then yes, you can do that. For babies the milk cap will be fine with water, but as the Geckos grows you will want a bigger bowl of water.

I keep my supply of mealies in a bucket of oats/bran/gutload with a piece of fruit or potato that I check on. It's conveniently placed next to the washing machine in the cold basement, so I remember to check & replace the moisture source often.

In Hidey's cage, they are in a plastic bowl. I put a real small piece of potato in there too & calcium. I usually keep 5-10 in her dish & replace as needed.
