Fill in cracks between slate

What should I use to fill in the cracks in-between my slate tile substrate? I'm wary about sand because my gecko suffered from impaction before (my substrate used to be chopped walnut shells). Would sand be okay? Or something else?

How big are the cracks between the tiles? It's probably fine as-is! I was also worried about that when I got slate tiles but everyone said it wouldn't be an issue since leopard geckos generally move slowly. & they were right, I haven't had any problems!
