Having the last three Bell clutches go bad really sucked, but seeing this little one today made me very happy...

His egg didn't look any better, but I rode it out remaining hopeful...

I have to thank Al from Fire Reptiles for selling me the mother Bell. So if you're out there, thanks a lot Al! This is her second baby out of five eggs; two went bad and I'm holding my breath on the fifth pictured above. She has another clutch due to hatch later this month and just laid her fifth clutch a few days ago...

Post up them parents dude! I want to make some sexy bell like that too some day :)

Mom is nothing special and dad is a Mack Pastel Bell from my BSB project...

You can see the faded neck band well here... That and the bright coloration tell me it's likely a Mack Pastel Bell... :main_thumbsup:

This is this pair's first baby for comparison...

Not as bright and no fading on the neck band...

What a beauty! Really vivid colors. I may have to try a Bell project at some point.

As far as your eggs going bad, I had a bunch go bad when I was using perlite, but I haven't had a single good egg go bad in the vermiculite. Perlite is really dusty stuff... if you mix it in potting soil you'll want to wear a mask. I much prefer the vermiculite for incubating gecko eggs. Moist vermiculite is soft and almost velvety to the touch... it's like the finest goose feather down as opposed to some cheap polyfill. Vermiculite makes a nicer cradle for the egg/baby gecko, and seems like it would be less abrasive if they accidentally ingested some of it.

Thanks!

I've used perlite for two seasons now and it's very efficient as an incubation medium for me. I believe I'm getting bad eggs simply because they came from first time breeders, but I'll take your advice into consideration.
