First Crested Gecko

Hi I am a new member here and new to Cresties. I have a little one that I picked up a week and a half ago . He (assuming) is settling in quite well. I was concerned that he wasn't eating but he has had a little p--p, so I am told that is a good sign of eating. I found that his critter keeper was a little on cool side all the time. The highest was 68 Fahrenheit. So I have put a mini heat pad under one end of his enclosure and the temp now reads 71.6 Fahrenheit. Is that sufficient? I mist him in the morning and evening and the humidity reads about 60 . Looking forward to any further info or comments.
Thanks
Dee Dee

As a recent former first - time crested gecko mom, I'm here to say be VERY careful of the heat pad. After adding one to my tank, my poor little girl passed because the tank dessicated very quickly. By the time I figured out the issue, it was too late.

Also, too little too late, but I would've recommended getting an adult for a first crestie. If one minor temp or humidity setting is off, even by a smidge, it can be life-threatening. Adults are bigger though and not as sensitive.

Like Kayla said, be careful with the heat pad. I've never used an external heat source for mine. Would it be possible to just move his cage to a warmer part of the house, or bump the thermostat up a few degrees? Live plants can help maintain humidity levels, and they look nice too.

Welcome to the forum! Careful with the heatpad, as it's already been said. And definitely go with live plants! They look so much better.
