Hi, so I recently got a baby Gargoyle Gecko (who I’ve deemed to be a juvenile because the bump formations have started forming that only come in at around 3 months) and I would like some help regarding how to handle him. I have practiced and am familiar with the hand walking method, I just need to know how to pick him up when the time comes. His tank is very full of cork bark and leaves (yet is only a five gallon so it’s kinda hard to maneuver) and I need to figure out how to get past the cork bark and encourage him to jump onto my hand. I don’t want to spook him, he was a little nervous last night because of a loud sound so I decided to give him some time today to settle down before I try to put my hand in the tank. I have had him for five days, and he is acclimating very well, usually very calm when I say hello and always in a different spot in the tank when I check in the morning (although he did not move last night from his cork bark because he was spooked.) So I’m just wondering how I might handle him with so many objects in the tank. (There’s really only two but the cork bark is like a wall and the fake plant takes up a good half providing a lot of climbing space. Should I move anything when it’s time to handle him? How might I get him to want to jump onto my hand?
