Hey guys, I have been keeping Leo's for a while now, and decided to move my Yoshi from
his standard 10 gallon to an Exo Terra Low 18x18x12 terrarium. Does anyone have experience with this terrarium? I think its 16-18 gallons. Someone might correct me on that but hey, its bigger at least and i got it for a deal!
So im re-doing Yoshi's cage!
So far I am debating on the substrate, i dont want tile, so its either some kind of NON impacting sand(probably no such thing) or repti carpet! I heard of someone using ASPEN? is that code word for IMPACTION? Jk, but can i use aspen? is there anything else?
I have a huge role of Green repti carpet i can use, but the green would look weird, because im going for a desert-y vibe. I have the zooMed medium UTH, it covers about 1/3 the tank and heat temps seem fine. It is hooked up to a hydrofarm unit and it is set to the right temperature.
I purchased a Large exo-terra gecko cave to replace his tupperware moist hide, an exoterra rock outcrops medium decor, and a huge cave looking thing for his hot hide.
Im looking to put some slate, rocks or something to make it seem more Desert-y. Any Ideas?

I will post pictures once i get things going, which should be wednesday!
My pockets are not deep considering i just spent 150 already on his new tank + supplies.
I also got a new macbook air, and messenger bag so im pretty much broke =(
.... so any suggestions are good!

Dont worry, pictures will come wednesday =)

Yoshi will be very happy!! Can't wait to see the setup. Substrate...maybe a rough tile or slate. I am like you, sand/impaction. They do make a brown repti-carpet, but it is a pain to clean, and there is always the toenail issue. Oh, congrats on the new macbook air!! I love my macs!!

So i got all the accessories today through fed ex!!! I did my research on substrate and
went with ceramic porcelain tile! i got it cut 17.5"x17.5" and cut it into 4's
Hopefully it will transfer the heat good? Any suggestions on the tile?

Well here are a couple of pictures of the set up without the tank. Tell me what you think,
and ideas? I will have a zoo med uth connected to a hydrofarm thermostat, and a 60 watt
ceramic heater on top. I didnt want to go with a light because Yoshi is vey sensitive to light and basically goes blind in light. He LITERALLY cant see; he bumps into walls, cant see food.

-The hot hide is that light tan cave (uth is under it and ceramic heater above it 60 watts)
-the humid hide is the exo terra rock (biggest rock) i chose to put it on the opposite side of the uth and heater
-cool hide is the exo terra tall rock. In the back it has cutouts for him to crawl in and chill.

Any suggestions? Any feedback? Like it? hate it? let me know =)
the tank should be here tomorrow =)

Which set up do you prefeer the most out of the two? (or help me create one)
Does it look like i got everything down?

Looks nice!! :main_thumbsup:
You do not need the ceramic heater on top. The UTH should give you enough belly temp. You will probably need an infra-red temp gun to check temps; or a digital probe thermometer firmly taped to the tile to monitor your temps. Personally, I would get the temp gun. I would also have the humid hide closer to the warm side. He is going to love it!!
