Flexwatt question

Ok, I have used flexwatt before but always in even footed segments, ie: 1 foot or 3 feet, and so on. So, can it be used in segments of say 1.5 feet? I am using the 3in wide flexwatt.

I noticed on the flexwatt that it appears marked every foot, and have always made my cuts on those marks.

You can cut anywhere through the laminate, not through the black element.
