flexwatt question?

we're thinking about ordering some flexwatt to make a big adult and a big hatchling rack.
But we're living in the netherlands so our wall sockets produce 230-240 volts instead of the
100-120 volts in the USA.

Will this cause any problems?

If it does, does anyone knwo a solution?

Hey guys!
I'm new here and such, just thought it would be an appropriate first post for me to reply to since I'm going to school for electrical engineering.

Matt, you are absolutely right, just as long as the thermostat is rated to handle the voltage. The only problem that could possibly arise would be if you didn't use a thermostat(I know you wouldn't, but its not unheard of), and plugged the flexwatt directly into the wall.

The only difference between European wiring and American wiring is, as you said, the voltage. The flexwatt temperature depends on the output wattage, which is determined by the voltage running through it. As long as the voltage is regulated, the wattage will be regulated as well.

If you have any questions as far as wiring the rack, let me know.

so as long as I use a pulse proportional thermostat, wich I was planning to, nothing can go wrong?

I was planning to use a habistat, I assume this will work fine.

Any other (pulse proportional) thermostats recommended?
(both for my incubator and rack systems, so I want a reliable one, max $130 each)

@ that_guy, Thanks, I'll let you know if I run into any problems with the wiring.

As far as I know, it would be fine. Dont take my word as 100% truth though, I really dont know. But the stat should keep everything in line.

I have two friends (in Portugal and Spain - we use 220v) that ordered some flexwatt from the states, and didn't had any problem with it.

Hi guys,

The termoestat will not regulate everything but it can do very well, just one thing about what Thorsten shows on his link if you are looking for a tranformer 220 to 110 be aware that those are measured in watts so depending on the amount of flexwatt you are using so powerfull will the transformer have to be, just a example for me a bought 50 ft flexwatt and I needed a 500watt transformer because without it the termoestat fuse was always exploding , mi transformer costed me $250 (+- 190€), I am not sure this is necessary but I didn't wanted to risk the life of more than 40 Geckos just trying, cose one thing I can asure you flexwatt plugged directly to 220V will reach 140C (Celsius) in less than 1 minute so be carefull.

Regards
Bruno
